Wedding Skin Prep Guide

Let’s face it, you want to look absolutely flawless on your wedding day. With all of the beauty treatments available on the market today, it can be overwhelming when it comes to choosing which treatments are best for your specific needs and when to start them.

I’ve created the ultimate Wedding Day Skin Prep Guide to cut out all the guess work - from the basis, to at home skin care, injections and med-spa treatments, it’s like a road map for that glowing bridal skin of your dreams!

So, let’s start with the basics (these might just be the only skincare game changes you need)!

WATER INTAKE:

After you get engaged it can feel like you have a bottomless glass of champagne in your hand for a month straight. Everyone wants to meet up to have a celebratory drink! While I fully support you indulging in ALL the champs your little heart desires, I highly recommend you increase your water intake ASAP! As a general rule, you should aim for about 2 liters a day. Drinking an adequate amount of water can not only increase skin suppleness, smooth out fine lines, alleviate chapped lips, and diminish dark circles, but it can also help with weight loss and improve digestions. I’ve always found in easy to drink more water when I have a cute water bottle to carry with me. I’m obsessed with the Kor One - it’s BPA free, made of glass and looks super chic. Your skin and your waistline will thank you!

VITAMINS:

Just like increasing your water intake, a great daily multivitamin is another key way to boost your glow from the inside out. Try a vitamin that boosts hair, skin and nail health! I love HAIRtamin Advanced Formula. After my first bottle, I had softer, shinier hair, my nails were growing like crazy and my skin had a noticeable healthy glow. I’m hooked! Other great benefits, It’s gluten free, preservative free, cruelty free, vegan, vegetarian, no sugar, zero calorie and you only need to take one a day.

AT HOME SKIN CARE:

Let’s pause for a sec. Before we talk skincare, I need to crystal clear about something - when it comes to your at home routine, consistency is the KEY to achieving results. Yes, this means you have to rally and pamper your skin even at 2:30am after drinks with your girls or after date night when all you want to do is pull the falsies off and go to bed (we’ve all been there). If you want to see positive changes in your skin, you must commit to your skincare routine every AM & PM. While I can’t prescribe the perfect routine for each of you since everyone has a different skin type and skin concerns, I do have some at home treatments that a swear by and have been recommending to my brides for years.

I recommend finding a great skincare professional (ideally at a med-spa so they can get you set up with a medical grade skincare routine as well as recommend facials, lasers and treatments to get you to your desired results. Your skincare routine should include the following:

  • Cleanser

  • Toner or micellar cleansing water

  • Treatment Serum (to target your main skincare concern like, dark spots, pores, acne or wrinkles)

  • Eye cream (don’t skip this babe!)

  • Manual scrub (this step can be done once or twice a week)

  • Day time moisturizer with SPF (Sun protection is an absolute everyday must! Especially if you’re investing in facials and lasers)

  • Night time moiturizer/oil (I prefer something more rich like an oil for night time.)

TREATMENTS:

Microneedling, HydraFacials and dermaplaning: The triple threat!

Microneedling - It’s important to not use at-home devices as there is a high risk of infection. Please only get this treatment done in a skincare clinic. Some of the main benefits of this procedure are wrinkle reduction, scar correction, and collagen building. For the best results, you should get a series of four about one month apart.

HydraFacials - If you only do one treatment before your big day, let it be a HydraFacial. Your skin will love you and you’ll GLOW in your photos. I recommend scheduling these in between your microneedling sessions as they help with the extra exfoliation needed to get rid of that last bit of flakiness caused by the microneedling (the flakiness is a good thing! You’re shedding old skin to let the new glowy skin shine through). If you choose this as your one and only pre-wedding day skin treatment, schedule to have it done 3-4 days before your big day.

Dermaplaning - Your Makeup Artist will LOVE you for getting your skin dermaplaned before your wedding day. This procedure removes dead skin and ALL peach fuzz so that your makeup glides on like butter and your skin looks velvety smooth. Ideally, you’d get your skin dermaplaned right before your last HyrdaFacial, on the same day. And if you’re wondering, no, your hair will not grow out thicker or darker. Once your hair begins to grow back, it might feel different because the hair was cut straight across, but it’s actually the same texture as it was before and it will grow at the same speed.

INJECTIONS:

Don’t get Botox done last minute. If you’ve never had Botox before, you should have it done twice before your wedding. Once about 6 months before your wedding day and once more 4 weeks prior.

Filler should be done 1 year to 6 months in advance. This allows time to make adjustments and let everything settle in nicely.

LET’S RECAP:

  1. Up your water intake to at least 2 liters a day and add in a daily multivitamin.

  2. Start your skincare routine 6-9 months prior to your wedding and stay consistent.

  3. Pick the at-home facial that will help target your specific skin concerns and do it once a week for the 4 weeks leading up to your big day.

  4. Get filler done 6 months to 1 year in advance.

  5. Get Botox done twice before your wedding day. 6 months before and 1 month before.

  6. Microneedling should be done in a series of 4 one month apart.

  7. HydraFacials should be done in-between each microneedling session with the last one (or your only one) being 3-4 days before your wedding.

  8. Dermaplaning should happen right before your last HydraFacial on the same day.

Your wedding day will most likely be the most photographed day of your life. Prepping your skin to look its best is a commitment but it is absolutely worth it.
